At Choices, we provide the Johnson, Miami, and Douglas County areas with individualized, timely, and effective substance abuse evaluations.
Generally speaking, when an individual is facing an alcohol or drug related legal issue the presiding Court will frequently request the defendant to demonstrate they are learning and growing through the diversion/probation process. A structured but very personalized substance abuse assessment (formerly referred to as an ADSAP assessment in DUI and OUI cases) assists in determining what level of substance abuse education or counseling is most appropriate for that individual, in effort to provide the most meaningful experience possible while reducing the likelihood of the defendant returning to the criminal justice system. The "big picture", however, is to assist the client in determining what positive action can be taken regarding their substance use/abuse choices in order for that individual to develop a healthier, more satisfying lifestyle overall, regardless of their legal status.
At Choices, Jeanna Allen (Agency Director), Licensed Addiction Counselor and court-approved evaluator, believes it is crucial to view each client with respect and dignity while working with the individual to develop the tools needed to move forward in their life, free from the negative costs/consequences of substance use, abuse and dependency.
A comprehensive substance abuse assessment requires typically approximately ninety minutes, and includes the administration of two standardized testing instruments as well as a sit-down interview with a substance abuse counselor. At the end of the assessment the client will be informed of the resulting recommendations as well as the motivating factors behind any requests for specific education or counseling, and will be given information regarding how to seek out the referred services.
Please be advised that a $50 deposit will be required to set and hold all adult (and non-grant-covered juvenile) assessments/evaluations scheduled for September 1st, 2021 and thereafter. Upon your arrival, this deposit is applied to the overall cost of the evaluation-- it is not an extra cost.
***This deposit is not refundable, and is will not transfer to another appointment date, so please check your personal and work schedules carefully as you make your evaluation appointment.***
